PN 16-25 Natural Gas Ball Valve Working Principle

07.07.2026 13:25

The PN 16-25 Natural Gas Ball Valve is an industrial valve designed to safely and efficiently control the flow of natural gas in pipeline systems. Thanks to its full-bore structure, it allows gas to pass through the valve with minimum pressure loss. VANEX VALVE natural gas ball valves are preferred in natural gas distribution lines, industrial facilities, energy plants and gas control systems due to their high sealing performance, durable body structure and reliable operation.

How Does a Natural Gas Ball Valve Work?

The working principle of a natural gas ball valve is based on the rotation of a perforated ball located inside the valve body. When the handle is turned to the open position, the hole inside the ball aligns with the pipeline direction, allowing gas to flow freely.

When the handle is turned 90 degrees to the closed position, the ball rotates and the passage hole becomes perpendicular to the flow direction. This completely stops the gas flow. This simple but highly reliable mechanism makes ball valves ideal for applications requiring fast opening and closing.

Open Position

In the open position, the handle is parallel to the pipeline. The bore inside the ball aligns with the pipe, allowing uninterrupted flow. The full-bore design helps reduce pressure loss and improves system efficiency.

Closed Position

In the closed position, the handle is perpendicular to the pipeline. The ball rotates 90 degrees and blocks the flow passage. Sealing elements contact the ball surface and prevent gas leakage, providing safe shut-off performance in natural gas lines.

What Does PN 16-25 Mean?

PN 16-25 refers to the pressure class of the valve. PN 16 and PN 25 natural gas ball valves are suitable for systems operating at different pressure levels. Selecting the correct pressure class is important for safety, performance and long service life.
